Benefiting and Honoring our Veterans               Motorcycle Run/Poker Run

Area Information

If you are planning to attend the motorcycle run, why not plan to spend the weekend in beautiful Huerfano County.  There are great restaurants, plenty of hotels and camping sites, shopping and some great short rides to take.

Walsenburg is the largest town of the county and has many family run restaurants along with a few chain establishments.   Hotel accomodations include the Best Western, Budget Host, Anchor Hotel, Rio Cucharas and the historic LaPlaza Hotel.  There are plenty of unique stores and antique shops on the main street to keep you busy. Lathrop State Park is only 3 miles from town and offers camping, boating and fishing.

La Veta is 16 miles from Walsenburg off of Hwy 160.  Here too you will find many unique shops and restaurants.  Take some time to see the Francisco Fort museum and a must while in LaVeta is to get an ice cream cone from Charlies Market.

If you continue on Hwy 12 past LaVeta you are traveling on the Highway of Legends up through Cuchara.Weston and ending in Trinidad.  This is a gorgeous ride of 82 miles. http://byways.org/stories/66921.  Cuchara is a quaint town with great food, B&B's, shopping, hiking and fishing.  Bear Lake and Blue Lake are right up the road if you want to camp.

A final ride you might consider is going northwest of Walsenburg on hwy 69 through the town of Gardner to Westcliff.  From there you can  visit Bishops Castle or ride hwy 50 along the Arkansas river to either Salida or Canon City. If you don't mind riding on gravel roads you can camp along the Huerfano River or hike to Lily Lake.   If you take this ride or any of the other scenic routes, make sure to top off your gas tank as some towns do not have gas stations.  We would love to have you discover our county!   Visit http://spanishpeakscountry.com for more information
